At the department of Radiology there are 5 imaging devices from different vendors:
- CT: Siemens Somatom Emotion 16-Slice
- MR: Philips Achieva 1.5T
- US: Mindray DC-7 Ultrasound
- Radiography 1 – DR: ViVIX-S 14×17 Wireless | Vieworks VXVue
- Radiography 2 – CR: Agfa CR 30-X
When Reynaldo Rosa, Director of Radiology came to P.H.G. he faced the challenge of integrating the hospital’s RIS with the Modalities.
The solution that he chose was based on his prior interest in DICOM and his reading in Roni’s blog.
The information for building the worklist was already available in the radiology department information system (RIS). The RIS, from local vendor, utilize MS SQL database.
H.R.Z. installed An HL7Kit with MWL interface and connected it to all the devices. That worked easily for most of the Imaging Devices.
One last device left that was not able to receive and display the Worklist properly.
We investigated this issue by consulting the device DCS (DICOM Conformance Statement) and together with the log collected on site we were able to find the reason of not showing the results on the device workstation. These kind of challenges is common in a multi-vendor environment.
Using H.R.Z. HL7Kit simplifies the integration phase to a minimum as most of the vendors are following the same data structure. In some cases we do find some challenges that can be overcome with our advanced and flexible technology to tailor the interface right and solve the challenge.
At the end of the day the integration project was successful as Reynaldo Rosa said: “It was the shortest project we ever did. Using H.R.Z. technologies allowed us to easily adopt it to our systems due to ease of use and on-the-job training provided to us during the project implementation. Bottom line, all systems are connected and working according to our expectations”.
